This series includes originals and copies of blueprint plans, drawings, plans, maps, sketches, and other such material on the historic Ala. State capitol. Included are such items as a 1939 Historic American Building Survey drawing of the first floor of the capitol and Daniel Pratt's 1851 proposed plan for the capitol, as well as blueprint plans of the various additions and alterations to the capitol. Oversized records transferred to the Archives include plans and blueprints for both the exterior and interior renovation of the Capitol. There are a few letters concerning the work. It also includes sketches and plans by the landscape architect for changes to the grounds. The blueprints are quite extensive covering every aspect of the building from the tunnel level and new construction at the east end to the dome. In addition to very detailed information about the structure of the building, the blueprints document the changes made as the planning progressed on the form and uses of the interior of the building. There are also the results of footing and ceiling tests, the proposed location of fire walls and the details of stairwell lighting fixtures. In addition to the blueprints there are three booklets concerning asbestos abatement, the preliminary specifications for the rehabilitation of the Capitol and fire protection work in connection with the building. There is also an 1861 engraving of the Capitol, photocopies and vouchers concerning previous work on the structure and an aeriel photograph of the building.
